Teacher materials and training
Curriculum Support Materials:
ClasSmart has developed comprehensive, NCS compliant in-service training guides for primary school teachers.
Each Learning Area has a Teacher’s Guide and a Learner’s Guide for every grade. Technology caters for Grades 1 – 7, and the other Learning Areas cater for Grades 4 -7.
The Teacher’s Guide provides a combined learning programme and work schedule, lesson plans, resources, teaching techniques and memorandums.
In the Learner’s Guide the skills and knowledge components for the learners are well structured and presented in a constructive and practical way. Comprehensive rubrics are used. Attention has been given to the language correctness, clear presentation and good graphics of the product.
Technology, Life Orientation, Economic and Management Sciences and Arts and Culture are published. Currently Natural Sciences and English First Language modules are in production.
Product creation and development:
ClasSmart has developed a community of authors, artists and editors to produce high quality classroom materials for South African schools. All the authors are qualified teachers, which gives the product a unique and user friendly quality.
Editing is thorough and high standards are expected of authors and artists in order to give the teachers professional programmes of a high standard.
Teacher Training:
ClasSmart runs comprehensive, informative, hands-on workshops. We have trained Technology teachers, run a very successful Assessment workshop and Social Sciences workshop. The Department of Education has requested quotes for Mathematics for 2010. The Technology workshops educate teachers on the implementation of Technology in their classrooms. Challenging hands-on activities help the teachers understand the principles of teaching Technology and the challenges that their learners face in the classroom. Comprehensive manuals provide the teachers with knowledge and ideas. The assessment workshop led educators through many practical activities, showing them how to implement the knowledge they are required to apply.
In the near future Natural Sciences and Math’s workshops will be added to the list of available workshops.
Young SESSA
ClasSmart and Suntoys have joined forces with SESSA (SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SOCIETY OF SOUTH AFRICA) to launch Young Sessa. Young Sessa will conduct workshops in schools to promote renewable energy.
This new project will assist teachers to see the link between Science and Technology and will encourage them to build a country that preserves and sustains the valuable resources that it has.
