Facilitation Training

109 Teachers arrived for facilitation training on 5 March 2011 at the Conference Park in Rivonia. They were transported by bus from various pick-up points in Gauteng. The teachers were divided into three separate groups; each group was facilitated by two competent and highly qualified facilitators. The facilitators were Eloise Botha, Ananda Wassenaar, Lindiwe Ndaba, Dineo Morabe, Nadine Smit and Karin Petzer. The teachers’ activities were conducted following a highly structured programme.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The following needs to be achieved throughout and by the end of the training course:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the vision of the school by the school management team in a transformational education system.
  2. Setting strategies, goals and tasks to achieve the vision.
  3. Management vs. leadership in the school environment (management in KFA’S)
  4. Adversity and conflict handling will be explored by doing teamwork activities.
  5. Recognising and gaining insight in developing emotional intelligence.
  6. The role of the SMT in the development of teachers’ vision and goals.
  7. Dealing effectively with the IQMS process and benefitting from the results.
  8. Listing the key characteristics to running a successful school.
  9. Recognising the importance of developing a supportive and involved school community.
  10. Running effective meetings in all areas.
  11. Writing useful and developmental work reports and departmental reports.
  12. Re-igniting the enthusiasm and passion for developing a strong education system.
