HOW WE WORK
Since ISIS (The solar world congress) was held in Midrand in October 2009, John Ledger and John Adams, members of SESSA have conducted various meetings with Harald Schulz (SunToy) and me (ClasSmart) to formulate a framework for the new Young Sessa division. Young Sessa as the name implies is the “Young Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa”. Young SESSA will, through its activities, create awareness in renewable energies at school level. We will bring the products and experiments to school and work practically with the learners so that they understand what solar energy entails.
We realise that schools have planned schedules, but the presentation will take two hours. Between 11:00 to 13:00 would be suitable as we get best results in the midday sun.
What we would like to do is a demonstration to your Natural Sciences learners in the hall. After the presentation we will take a selected group of no more than 100 learners, selected by you onto the sports fields to conduct some practical work.
Our team of three to six presenters will bring along a SOLAR ENERGY VAN equipped with all the tools and materials we need for the presentation.
The entire presentation including the practical work should take about two hours.
Our mission is to encourage our learners to become more aware of the ways in which we can live in an energy efficient environment. We will introduce them to solar energy products and prove to them how substantial savings can be made by implementing energy efficient products. We will also link our presentations to the curriculum and encourage the learners to apply the concepts learned in the workshop to the curriculum they cover on a daily basis.
The school will be encouraged to become a member of Young Sessa FREE of charge. As part of the membership, the school will receive a quarterly newsletter and be invited to a SESSA sponsored Solar Olympiad. The school will also qualify for discounts on solar energy products from some of our SESSA members.
